Q. How do I cite an article I found in a library database?

Most library databases have a "cite" button that automatically generates a citation for the item you are reading. Once you locate the button, you can select from the most common citation styles and copy and paste into your works cited/ bibliography*. See Examples below.

*Note that Zotero users will want to use the "export citation" option to export citation into Zotero.

OneSearch and EBSCO Databases

If grabbing the citation from the results screen, find the article of interest and click on the Tools menu (3 dots) for the Cite button. You can also find the Cite button within each individual record.

 

OneSearch citations for Zotero users

To use Zotero, click on Export Citation and export to 

Export in RIS format (e.g. CITAVI, EasyBib, EndNote, Mendeley, NoodleTools, ProCite, RefWorks, Zotero, etc.)


ProQuest Databases

The Cite button is located in the menu on the right side of the screen.

Proquest citations for Zotero users:

Click on Citavi, Mendeley, etc. for the file to open and download as a RIS file. This file should integrate into your Zotero library.
